In the early ’70s, Roberto Polito, future founder and president of Baglioni Hotels, was sent to the Tuscan coast to develop a large resort for a Swiss operator. When he discovered that little-known tract of the Tyrrhenian coastline, it was love at first sight. In partnership with Carlo Ponti, film producer and husband of Sophia Loren, he bought an area called Pineta di Roccamare, near Castiglione della Pescaia. When the partnership ended, Roberto Polito knew that the area would be his springboard in the hospitality business – and in 1974, the first property opened, the Baglioni Resort Cala del Porto in Punta Ala. The journey had begun.
It became a family project, and together with his wife, Lisa, and later with their children too, he built up a collection of boutique hotels that is widely recognized as the epitome of Italian hospitality. Roberto and Lisa married in Punta Ala, and it was there that Guido Polito, the current Managing Director of Baglioni Hotels, spent his childhood.
The Baglioni Hotels are private residences, elegant and intimate, open and vibrant, and the people who work there are meticulous about every detail.
Everything is arranged to put the guest at the heart of an authentic, personal and exquisitely Italian experience that will live long in the memory. Over the years, the brand has developed a concept of luxury embodied in a personalised service, where guests always feel comfortable, and all their daily needs are taken care of throughout their stay, with a sensitivity to both their culture of origin and their individual tastes and preferences. Each hotel has its own story, a symbiotic relationship with the local culture and language. And while the surroundings influence the style, it is the Baglioni personality that lends the hospitality its unmistakable hallmark of quality.
